Foundation and Intermediate training courses are held by TDARS at irregular intervals; their frequency depending entirely on demand. There are no previous educational requirements, tuition fees or room rental charges. Examination fees are payable by cheque to the ‘Radio Society of Great Britain’ and should be attached to a completed application form. Any applicant below 16 years of age MUST have a parent or guardian signature appended.

For each course, students MUST have a personal copy of the appropriate RSGB publication for that level. These books can be ordered on the RSGB website but are available, at a reduced price, from the librarian at TDARS HQ, every Wednesday evening.

Examination candidates are allowed to use a non-programmable calculator. No books, papers or mobile phones are allowed in the examination room. Two black ink ball point pens should be carried. Calculations etc can be written on the reverse of the exam paper.

Completed papers are marked on the spot and results issued immediately. Successful candidates can apply to OfCom for a new call-sign a few days after the examination.
Some applicants may get their choice of callsign, if it has not already been issued, by negotiation directly with OfCom.
